SEYMOUR – The Board of Selectmen on Dec. 7 unanimously approved spending $52,800 on a new generator for Town Hall.
The town received two bids. The other bid was roughly $3,200 less but it had to be tossed because the bid application was incomplete, according to Seymour’s Emergency Management Director Tom Eighmie.
The winning bid went to Huntington Power, based in Shelton.
The generator used to power town hall during emergencies died out two years ago, Eighmie said.

Seymour Town Hall. It's in Seymour.
Because of the unit’s age, there were no replacement parts available.
The town has since been renting a generator on a monthly basis for $750 a month.
Eighmie said purchasing a new generator has been in the works for the two years, and money to pay for it was budgeted over two year’s time in the town’s capital improvement budget.
Because of shipping delays, Eighmie expects the new 80-kilowatt generator to arrive in about 15 to 20 weeks.
The new unit will have the ability to power up the entire town hall building on First Street, which has about 10,000 square feet. of space. It will be installed on the back side of the building.
