Brian Koskelowski — the chairman of Seymour’s Republican Town Committee, volunteer firefighter and son of the town’s first selectman — was arrested July 1 for allegedly misusing his emergency blue light on Route 8.
It was the second time Koskelowski, 44, of Pearl Street, has been charged for misuse of the blue lights.
Police said on July 1 Koskelowski used the emergency lights to attempt to pull over another car on Route 8 northbound. But Koskelowski said he was simply trying to signal the driver after he passed Koskelowski in the breakdown lane.
“I had no intention of pulling him over,” Koskelowski said Sunday. “I just didn’t want him to kill me.”
“I’ve seen one too many accidents and I didn’t want this guy to hurt somebody else,” Koskelowski said.
State police arrested Koskelowski at his home after the driver complained of the incident. According to the police report, Koskelowski admitted to using the flashing light on his dashboard. He was charged with criminal impersonation, reckless driving and use of unauthorized colored or white lights.
Back in 2008, Koskelowski was charged by local police for using the blue lights on Pearl Street in Seymour. At the time, Koskelowski said he had accidentally switched the lights on, but a woman driving in front of him thought he was trying to pull her over.
Koskelowski paid a fine for the 2008 incident. He is due to appear in Derby Superior Court July 13 for the more recent charges.
