Seymour Will Be Included On Antiques Trail

The shops in downtown Seymour will be included in a proposal to expand the Connecticut antiques trail,” a state legislator promised Tuesday.

First Selectman Paul Roy raised the issue at the start of a forum at Seymour Town Hall featuring Republican state Senators Rob Kane, Kevin Kelly and state Rep. Len Greene.

Kane has a bill in the legislature that would establish the antiques trail and provide appropriate signage, advertising and web sites to promote said trail.”

Signs on Interstate 84 already direct people to antiques stores in Woodbury. Kane’s bill would extend the signs to Route 8 and include shops in Oxford and Seymour.

Kane said it’s always a battle to get signs approved by the state’s Department of Transportation, where officials are worried about excess signage.”

Yet there is a sign on Interstate 84 in Hartford noting that Trinity College won a national squash championship.

Quite honestly, who cares?” Kane asked.

The signs for the antiques trail would help local economic development, Kane said.

Roy suggested the signs go up on Route 67, in addition to Route 8.
