Seymour’s Orts Takes Ice Cream Prize!

Stephanie Orts is the queen of ice cream.

Orts, 16, a junior at Seymour High School, has won an advertising contest for Turkey Hill brand ice cream by drawing the most votes from the public that checked out the company’s website.

With 47,654 votes, she is the top in the art design contest and will receive a year’s supply of Turkey Hill ice cream, among other prizes.

Yes, all the voting paid off,” Orts said, talking about how all her schoolmates voted for her.

Now her friends are anxious to help her eat the winnings.

I’ve had a lot of requests from school,” she said. I’ll probably get cookie dough flavor, or chocolate.”

Turkey Hill, based in Lancaster County, Pa., received more than 1,400 art design submissions in its Giant Cow Makeover Contest, and voting took place all February.

Because Stephanie’s design had the most votes, her design will be painted on the Giant Cow, which will go on tour at events where the company appears.

She’ll also receive an ice cream party and a visit from the redesigned Giant Cow. In addition, Stephanie will win a two-night stay in Lancaster County to attend the new Turkey Hill Experience grand opening.

When it first posted I didn’t think I would win,” she said, but everyone kept telling their friends, and I was a little more hopeful.”

Orts’ design is a play on the traditional view of a cow and how the animal can be divvied up for meat. Instead of meat, Orts shows gallons of ice cream.

Her mother heard about the contest in an e‑mail and suggested she give it a try, knowing of her interest in art. She may study architecture in college.

Turkey Hill, with 700 dairy employees in Lancaster, Pa., will paint Orts’ design on one of their giant cows and send it to her home this spring for an ice cream party to unveil the design.

We’ll send her 52 coupons, for a year’s supply of one carton of ice cream a week,” said Ashley Pluta, spokesman for the dairy company.
