While most of us are screaming because of government waste and spending, I need to point out one positive development that affected me personally as well as my customers and ultimately the Shelton tax payers.
I am the owner of The Hide Out, a before and after school program in Shelton, and I lease the Nike site building from the City of Shelton.
The building is ideal for our purposes. However, since it is almost 60 years old maintenance issues are expected to arise.
One huge problem started occurring a few years ago with repeated roof leaks.
It was obviously time for a new roof.
Contractors and outside roofing companies came by to quote the repair, and I understand that most were coming in well over the $100 K range.
Say what you will about our mayor. In this case I think that his decision to do the work “in house” as opposed to hiring outside contractors saved the Shelton tax payers substantially.
Furthermore, the scheduling of the work allowed me to remain open for business except for our already scheduled closing.
I just wanted to give my thumbs up for a job well done by all who were involved in the roof especially Chris Potucek, building maintenance director and the mayor.
