Shelton Clergy Association To Host Sept. 11 Service

On Sunday, Sept. 11th at 6 p.m., the Shelton Clergy Association will host a Service of Hope and Remembrance on the Huntington Green at the Gazebo.

In case of rain, the service will be held in St. Paul’s historic old Church. Free parking is available in the parish lot at 25 Church Street or in the lot of the Huntington Congregational Church at 19 Church Street.

All members of the community are invited to participate in this service of short readings and song, prayers and candlelight. In the prayers, there will be a time for those gathered to lift up the names of those they know who died in New York City, Washington D.C. and Pennsylvania on Sept. 11, 2001.

“On the anniversary of an event designed to split our nation and our world apart, the simple act of coming together in prayer and solidarity is faith, is hope,” said the Rev. Janet Waggoner of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, host of the event. “We gather in defiance of hate and despair. We come together to speak love more powerful than death and to share light that casts out darkness.”

Following the service, all are welcome to walk the new Peace Labyrinth in the upper parking lot at St. Paul’s. The labyrinth is the recently-installed Eagle Project of Scout Paul Johnson and is open to the public. For those who have never walked a labyrinth, brief instruction will be provided on how to use this tool for active meditation and/or prayer.

For more information, please contact the Rev. Janet Waggoner at 203 – 246-8646 or the Rev. Lucille Fritz at 203 – 929-1223.
