Shelton FD Tackles Route 8 Bus Fire

SHELTON – There were no major injuries reported after a commuter bus fire on Route 8 Monday evening.

According to a press release from the Shelton Fire Department, crews were sent to Route 8 south between exits 13 and 14 for a reported fire at about 6:30 p.m.

The first crews on scene saw heavy smoke and flames coming from the rear section of a coach bus. Luckily the bus driver was the only person on the bus, and he was able to exit without injury.

It took about 20 firefighters 35 minutes to extinguish the blaze.

Two firefighters were checked on at the scene for minor heat-related issues. It was about 86 degrees outside during the incident, with high humidity.

Route 8 was closed during the incident.

Assistant Chief Joe Constantino was the incident commander.
