Shelton Fire Department Calls For Service

The Shelton Fire Marshal provided the following summary of the fire department’s calls from the last week.

On 09/26/16 at 3:38 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1, Huntington Co. #3 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to a fire alarm sounding at #2 Meadowlake Drive. There was no fire. Smoke from cooking caused the alarm. One unit responded.

On 089/26/16 at 7:07 pm the Huntington Co. #3 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to a brush fire in a wooded area at the end of Tahmore Drive. The fire was a rekindle from a previous brush fire. One engine, one brush truck and one tanker truck responded.

On 09/26/16 at 8:12 pm the Huntington Co. #3 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to a fire alarm sounding at #8 Country Ridge Drive. There was no fire. Smoke from cooking caused the alarm. Two engines responded.

On 09/26/16 at 9:19 pm the White Hills Co. #5 and the Huntington Co. #3 responded to #15 Stone wall Lane for a fire alarm sounding. There was no fire. Smoke from cooking caused the alarm. One engine and one ladder truck responded.

On 09/26/16 at 11:31 pm the White Hills Co. #5 responded to #45 Webster Drive to assist EMS with a patient. One unit responded.

On 09/27/16 at 6:11 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1, Pine Rock Co. #4 and White Hills Co. #5 responded to #75 Toas Street for a report of a smoking electrical panel. Upon arrival firefighters determined a problem with an appliance was the cause. Two engines responded.

On 09/28/16 at 05:29 am the Echo Hose Co. #1 and White Hills Co. #5 responded to an automatic fire alarm sounding at #223 Canal Street. There was no fire. One ladder truck and one utility truck responded.

On 09/28/16 at 9:01 am the White Hills Co. #5 and the Huntington Co. #3 responded to a report of a propane odor in a school bus at the corner of Maple Avenue and Hayfield Drive. Upon arrival firefighters found children on the bus had been safely evacuated. The gas odor occurred when a supply line came disconnected on the engine. The gas supply had been stopped immediately as designed but did cause and odor on the bus. Two engines and one rescue truck responded.

On 09/28/16 at 12:49 pm the Pine Rock Co. #4 and the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to a car fire in the driveway at #13 Wexford Lane. Upon arrival firefighters extinguished a fire in the engine compartment of a vehicle. Damage was confined to the engine compartment. One engine and one rescue truck responded.

On 09/28/16 at 2:19 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to the Bridgeport Avenue Shell Station for a small gasoline leak. One engine responded.

On 09/28/16 at 5:04 pm the Huntington Co. #3, Echo Hose Co. #1 and the White Hills Co. 35 responded to #4 Research Drive for an odor of natural gas in the building. Upon arrival firefighters evacuated the buildings occupants. Firefighters then determined the odor was caused when pilot lights in the buildings cafeteria kitchen failed to ignite. Two engines, one rescue truck and one ladder truck responded.

On 09/29/16 at 2:47 pm the Huntington Co. #3, White Hills Co. #5 and the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to check a home for carbon monoxide after a furnace problem at #6 Dartmouth Drive. Upon arrival firefighters found a fire had occurred in the furnace room of the home. The fire was extinguished by the home owner prior to firefighters arriving. There was no carbon monoxide problem but the furnace room sustained fire damage. One engine and one rescue truck responded.

On 09/29/16 at 10:21 pm the Huntington Co. #3 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to assist police with a search of a missing juvenile in the area of Booth Hill Road and Corral Drive. The person was found shortly thereafter. No further details were reported. One engine, one rescue truck, one brush truck and one utility truck with an all terrain vehicle responded.

On 09/30/16 at 8:28 pm the Huntington Co. #3 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to a fire alarm sounding at #289 Nichols Avenue. There was no fire. Smoke from cooking caused the alarm. One engine and one rescue truck responded.

On 10/01/16 at 1:17 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1, Pine Rock Co. #4 and White Hills Co. #5 responded to Carmine’s Restaurant at #376 River Road for a fire alarm sounding. There was no fire. Smoke from cooking caused the alarm. One engine and one ladder truck responded.

On 10/01/16 at 6:57 pm the Pine Rock Co. #4, Echo Hose Co. #1, White Hills Co. #5 and the Huntington Co. #3 responded to a structure fire at #45 Sharon Court. Upon arrival firefighters extinguished a fire in a laundry room of a single family home. The fire was under control in about 30 minutes. The room sustained extensive fire damage and the rest of the home sustained heat and smoke damage. The fire marshal’s office determined the fire originated in a clothes dryer. An aerosol can left in a pants pocket exploded after being heated in the dryer and ignited clothing inside. Three engines, two rescue trucks and one ladder truck responded.

On 10/02/16 at 11:07 the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to a public service call at #210 Kyle’s Way. A water problem was the reason for the call. One unit responded.

On 10/02/16 at 2:57 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to assist EMS at #11 Fairfield Avenue. One rescue truck responded.
