Shelton Fire Department Weekly Calls

Shelton Fire Marshal James Tortora submitted the following summary of the Shelton Volunteer Fire Department’s calls from the last week.

On 10/24/17 at 9:42 am the Huntington Co. #3 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to a fire alarm sounding at #35 Patricia Drive. There was no fire. Dust from construction caused the alarm. An engine responded.

On 10/24/17 at 1:04 pm the Huntington Co. #3 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to a fire alarm sounding at #20 Short Street. There was no fire. Smoke from cooking caused the alarm. An engine responded.

On 10/24/17 at 2:15 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to a report of power line hanging low from a pole on Coram Road near Petremont Lane. An engine responded.

On 10/24/17 at 2:19 pm the Huntington Co. #3 responded to a tree on power lines on Lazy Brook Road. An engine and a utility truck responded

On 10/24/17 at 2:30 pm the Huntington Co. #3 and the White Hills Co. #5 and the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to a fire alarm sounding at the Peoples Bank at #500 Shelton Avenue. There was no fire. Smoke from cooking caused the alarm. An engine responded.

On 10/24/17 at 8:12 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1, Pine Rock Co. #4 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to a fire alarm sounding at the UBS Building at #90 Ivy Brook Road. There was no fire. the alarm was transmitted accidentally. An engine and a ladder truck responded.

On 10/24/17 at 9:41 pm the Huntington Co. #3 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to a fire alarm sounding at #77 Wesley Drive. There was no fire. Water leaking into the home and onto an electrical panel caused the alarm. Two engines responded.

On 10/24/17 at 10:01 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to a public service call at #8 Louise Drive. Firefighters assisted with water flooding a garage. An engine responded.

On 10/24/17 at 10:35 pm the Huntington Co. #3 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to a public service call at #36 Applewood Drive. A broken water pipe was flooding a basement before firefighters were able to shut in off. An engine and a utility truck responded.

On 10/25/17 at 01:29 am the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to a fire alarm sounding at #418 Howe Avenue. There was no fire. An engine responded.

On 10/25/17 at 7:00 am the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to a fire alarm sounding at #8 Laurel Lane. There was no fire. One unit responded.

On 10/25/17 at 7:24 am the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to a motor vehicle accident on Howe Avenue near Wheeler Street. Firefighters responded and stood by until a vehicle, which rolled over, was removed from the scene. An engine and a rescue truck responded.

On 10/25/17 at 11:57 the Huntington Co. #3 responded to Buddington Road for power lines down. An engine responded.

On 10/25/17 at 12:24 pm the Huntington Co. #3 responded to the area of #6 Cloverdale Avenue for power lines down. An engine responded.

On 10/25/17 at 1:14 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to a mutual aid call to the City Of Derby to assist at the scene of a structure fire at #185 Elizabeth Street. An engine and a ladder truck responded.

On 10/25/17 at 3:48 pm the Huntington Co. #3, Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to the Woodside Deli at #719 Bridgeport Avenue for a fire in a grill. The fire was out upon arrival of firefighters. Two engines responded.

On 10/26/17 at 8:10 am the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to a report of a natural gas odor in the area of Oak Avenue and Wooster Street. An engine responded.

On 10/26/17 at 9:45 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to a motor vehicle accident on Nells Rock Road. An engine and a rescue truck responded.

On 10/27/17 at 05:35 am the Huntington Co. #3, Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to a fire alarm sounding at the Asian Bistro #702 Bridgeport Avenue. There was no fire. Steam cleaning caused the alarm. An engine and a ladder truck responded.

On 10/27/17 at 6:47 am the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to a fire alarm sounding at #100 Kings Highway. There was no fire. Steam from a shower caused the alarm. A unit responded.

On 10/27/17 at 8:49 am the Huntington Co. #3 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to a motor vehicle accident on Booth Hill Road at Waverly Road. An engine responded.

On 10/27/17 at 12:40 pm the White Hills Co. #5 and the Huntington Co. #3 responded to a motor vehicle accident on Bearsdley Road near Dimon Road. Two engines responded.

0n 10/27/17 at 12:59 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to an illegal open burn in the rear of #9 Long Hill Avenue. An engine responded.

On 10/27/17 at 2:10 pm the Huntington Co. #3, Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to a fire alarm sounding at #6 Armstrong Road. There was no fire. Two engines and a ladder truck responded.

On 10/28/17 at 04:29 am the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to a carbon monoxide alarm sounding at #65 Ridge Lane. An engine responded.

On 10/28/17 at 11:42 am the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to route 8 at exit 16 in Derby to assist at the scene of a motor vehicle accident. An engine and a rescue truck responded.

On 10/28/17 at 11:51 am the Huntington Co. #3 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to #54 Mohegan Road for a fuel spill. An engine responded.

On 10/28/17 at 6:49 pm the White Hills Co. #5 responded to the area of #168 Longfellow Road for a power line down. An engine responded.

On 10/29/17 at 00:46 the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to a carbon monoxide sounding at #66 Wooster Street. An engine responded.

On 10/29/17 at 9:13 am the Huntington Co. #3 responded to Waverly Road at Isinglass Road for power lines down. An engine responded.

On 10/29/17 at 3:56 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Huntington Co. #3 responded to a motor vehicle accident on Route 8 south near exit 12. An engine and a rescue truck responded.

On 10/29/17 at 8:52 pm the Huntington Co. #3, Echo Hose Co. #1 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to Pine Street for power live lines down in the road. Two engines and a ladder truck responded.

On 10/29/17 at 8:52 pm the Huntington Co. #3 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to the Marriott Hotel at #780 Bridgeport Avenue for a fire alarm sounding. There was no fire. An engine and a ladder truck responded.

On 10/29/17 at 9:50 pm the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to Broc Terrace for power lines down. An engine responded.

On 10/29/17 at 10:04 pm the Huntington Co. #3 responded to Matilda Lane for power lines down in the road. An engine responded.

On 10/29/17 at 10:21 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to #93 myrtle Street for power lines down in the road. An engine responded.

On 10/29/17 at 10:26 pm the White Hills Co. #5 responded to Meadowridge Road for power lines down. An engine responded.

On 10/29/17 at 11:47 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1, White Hills Co. #5, Pine Rock Co. #4 and the Huntington Co. #3 responded to a structure fire at #700 Howe Avenue, Upon arrival firefighters found a fire in the first floor apartment of a three family structure. The fire was under control in about 30 minutes. The lone occupant of the unit escaped safely. The fire caused extensive damage to the first floor and smoke damage to the remainder of the structure. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Fire Marshal’s Office. Two engines, a rescue truck and a ladder truck responded.
