Shelton Fire Marshal James Tortora provided the following summary of the fire department’s calls last week.
On Aug. 29 at 2:26 p.m. the Huntington Co #3 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to an automatic fire alarm sounding at 84 Booth Hill Road. There was no fire. One engine and one ladder truck responded.
On Aug. 29 at 2:37 p.m. the Echo Hose Co. #1, White Hills Co. #5 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to 14 Jefferson St. for an electrical outlet smoking in the home. Firefighters checked the outlet and shut the power off. One engine and one ladder truck responded.
On Aug. 29 at 2:59 p.m. the White Hills Co. #5 and the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to several brush fires along Route 110/Leavenworth Road between Indian Well Road and the Monroe town line. Two engines responded.
On Aug. 29 at 3:06 p.m. the Huntington Co. #3 responded to assist EMS with removing a patient on Spruce Drive. One engine and one rescue truck responded.
On Aug. 29 at 7:30 p.m. the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to an automatic fire alarm sounding at the Helen DeVaux Housing Complex at 91 Howe Ave. There was no fire. One ladder truck responded.
On Aug. 30 at 6:49 a.m. the Pine Rock Co. #4 and the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to a fire alarm sounding from 55 Soundridge Drive. There was no fire. Smoke from cooking caused the alarm. One unit responded.
On Aug. 30 at 11:27 a.m. the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to an automatic fire alarm sounding at the Helen DeVaux Housing Complex at #91 Howe Ave. There was no fire. One unit responded.
On Aug. 30 at 2:54 p.m. the White Hills Co. #5 and the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to a report of a brush fire along Route 110/Leavenworth Road near Indian Well Road. Firefighters responded but found no fire. Two engines responded.
On Aug. 30 at 3:24 p.m. the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to an automatic fire alarm sounding at the Winter Brothers Corporation, 90 Oliver Terrace. There was no fire. A fire sprinkler pipe was accidentally severed causing the alarm. One ladder truck responded.
On Aug. 30 at 4:12 p.m. the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to the corner of Coram Avenue and Kneen Street for an odor of natural gas in the area. The cause of the odor was not reported. One engine and one ladder truck responded.
On Aug. 30 at 6:15 p.m. the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to an automatic fire alarm sounding at the Winter Brothers Corporation, 90 Oliver Terrace. There was no fire. The alarm activated during filling operations of the fire sprinkler system. One ladder truck responded.
On Aug. 30 at 7:55 p.m. the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to a report of a odor of natural gas in the building at Birmingham Condominiums, 145 Canal St. Firefighters and gas company representatives determined food cooking caused the odor. One engine and one ladder truck responded.
On Aug. 31 at 6:32 a.m. the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to a gasoline spill at the Cumberland farms Gas Station, 464 River Road. Firefighters responded and found about five gallons of gasoline had spilled. The cause was not reported. One engine responded.
On Aug. 31 at 12:23 p.m. the Huntington Co. #3 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to Poplar Drive for power lines down in the road and a grass fire caused by the downed live wires. Two engines responded.
On Aug. 31 at 10:11 p.m. the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to a report of smoke in the rear of the Casa Nova Restaurant, 833 River Road. There was no fire. It was determined the smoke was from a wood burning oven used by the restaurant. One engine responded.
On Sept. 1 at 5:20 p.m. the Huntington Co. #3 responded to 30 Ballaro Drive for a carbon monoxide detector sounding. A faulty detector was the cause. One rescue truck responded.
On Sept. 2 at 7:26 a.m. the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to an automatic fire alarm sounding at the Inline Plastics Warehouse, 470 Bridgeport Ave. There was no fire. A broken fire sprinkler pipe activated the alarm. One engine responded.
On Sept. 2 at 12:20 p.m. the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to a report of smoke in the area of Maltby Street and Prospect Avenue. Firefighters checked the area and found excessive smoke from a malfunctioning lawn mower running caused the call. One engine responded.
On Sept. 3 at 10:12 p.m. the Huntington Co. #3, Echo Hose Co. #1 and Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to an automatic fire alarm sounding at 1 Greenwich place. There was no fire. The cause of the alarm was not reported. Two engines and one ladder truck responded.
On Sept. 4 at 10:50 p.m. the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to a report of an odor of gas outside 21 Wakelee Ave. No further information was reported. One engine responded.
On Sept. 5 at 01:37 a.m. the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to 134 Center St. for a fire alarm sounding. Upon arrival firefighters found a smoke filled a third floor apartment when the occupant fell asleep and left food cooking on a stove. One engine and one ladder truck responded.
