Shelton Fire Marshal James Tortora submitted the following summary of the Shelton Volunteer Fire Department’s calls from last week.
On 10/07/16 at 4:41 pm the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to River Road and Murphy’s Lane for an odor of natural gas in the area. Firefighters found no cause of the odor. One ladder truck responded.
On 10/07/16 at 11:02 pm the Huntington Co. #3 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to #395 Woodridge for an odor of natural gas in the home. Firefighters determined the odor of a skunk was mistaken for natural gas. One engine and one ladder truck responded.
On 11/08/16 at 8:43 am the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to an automatic fire alarm sounding at the Inline Plastics warehouse at #470 Bridgeport Avenue. There was no fire. a test of a fire hydrant on the property caused the water flow alarm to sound. Two engines responded.
On 11/08/16 at 11:07 am the White Hills Co. #5 responded to #52 Wabuda Place for a public service call. Firefighters were needed to check on a medical device that was malfunctioning. One engine responded.
On 11/08/16 at 12:37 pm the White Hills Co. #5, Echo Hose Co. #1, and the Huntington Co. #3 responded to #36 Little Fox Run for a car fire in the driveway. The fire consumed the vehicle and had caused damage to the siding of the home before being extinguished by firefighters. Three engines and one ladder truck responded.
On 11/08/16 at 3:28 pm the Huntington Co. #3, Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to a fire alarm sounding at the Benchmark Senior Living at #708 Bridgeport Avenue. There was no fire. One engine responded.
On 11/08/16 at 8:40 pm the Pine Rock Co. #4 and the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to the Precision Resource Services at #25 Forest Parkway for a fire alarm sounding. There was no fire. One engine and one ladder truck responded.
On 11/09/16 at 5:21 pm the Huntington Co. #3 responded to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Mohegan Road and Moose Hill Road. One engine and one rescue truck responded.
On 11/10/16 at 9:21 pm the White Hills Co. #5 and the Huntington Co. #3 responded to the Elizabeth Shelton School for a fire alarm sounding. There was no fire. One engine, one rescue truck and one ladder truck responded.
On 11/11/16 at 6:12 am the Echo Hose Co. #1, and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to a report of smoke in the area of Howe Avenue and Wharf Street. Upon arrival no smoke or fire could be found. One unit responded.
On 11/11/16 at 11:40 am the White Hills Co. #5, Echo Hose Co. #1, Huntington Co. #3 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to a structure fire at #2 Round Hill Road. Upon arrival firefighters extinguished a fire in a pick up truck that had spread to the house. Firefighters contained the fire but not before it reached into a room of the single family home. The fire started in the truck from an undetermined cause and caused extensive damage to the exterior of the house. The home sustained smoke and water damage as a result of the fire. The owners were unable to stay in the home due to the damage. Two engines, one rescue truck and one ladder truck responded.
On 11/11/16 at 12:38 pm the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to a fire in a trash can at the White Hills Shopping Center #194 Leavenworth Road. One engine responded.
On 11/11/16 at 12:50 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1, and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to a motor vehicle accident on Coram Avenue at Maltby Street. One engine and one utility truck responded.
On 11/11/16 at 2:07 pm the Huntington Co. #3 responded to a public service call at #708 Bridgport Avenue. One rescue truck responded.
On 11/11/16 at 3:57 pm the Huntington Co. #3 responded to power line down in the roadway on Buddington Road near Old Town Road. One engine responded.
On 11/12/16 at 9:25 am the Echo Hose Co. #1, Pine Rock Co. #4 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to a structure fire at #23 Trolley Bridge Road. Upon arrival firefighters found a fire had occurred in the kitchen of the single family home. The fire was out when firefighters arrived but not before causing damage to the kitchen stove, microwave and cabinets. The home also sustained smoke damage. The fire started when cooking oil was left on the stove overheated and the oil igniting. Two engines, one recue truck and two ladder trucks responded.
On 11/12/16 at 3:27 pm the Huntington Co. #3 responded to an illegal open burning at #19 Sherwood Lane. One engine responded.
On 11/12/16 at 6:55 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1, and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to a report of an odor of gas in the area of Coram Road and Angell Avenue. Firefighters checked the area but found no odor. One rescue truck responded.
On 11/12/16 at 8:59 pm the Huntington Co. #3 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to a brush fire on Gray Street. Two engines, one brush truck and one tanker truck responded.
On 11/12/16 at 11:47 pm the Huntington Co. #3 Echo Hose Co. #1, and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to a fire alarm sounding at #1000 Bridgeport Avenue. There was no fire. Two engines and one ladder truck responded.
On 11/13/16 at 01:52 am the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to a fire alarm sounding at #159 Center Street. There was no fire. One engine responded.
On 11/13/16 at 8:04 am the White Hills Co. #5 and the Huntington Co. #3 responded to a fire alarm sounding in a home in the area of Village Drive and Astor Drive. Firefighters checked the area but found no source of the alarm. Two engines responded.
