Shelton Garage Fire Destroys Two Cars

Shelton firefighters made quick work of a garage fire on Easton Court Wednesday.

The fire started at about 5:30 p.m., after homeowner Eleanor Mastroni parked her 1983 Mercedes SL in the garage.

Mastroni noticed smoke coming from underneath the car after she got out of it.

She called the fire department.

When firefighters arrived, the car and the garage were on fire.

The garage was going up by the time we got here,” said Assistant Fire Chief Nick Verdicchio.

Two cars in the garage — the Mercedes and a Cadillac — were destroyed in the fire.

As of 6:30 p.m., firefighters were venting the home, and spraying the garage for hot spots.

Echo Hose Ambulance responded as well, to distribute water to the firefighters, and to be on hand if anyone got hurt.

Verdicchio said one firefighter wasn’t feeling well, and had to sit out, but was fine afterward.

Verdicchio said no one was seriously injured in the fire.
