Dr. Beth A. Smith, headmaster of Shelton High School, is pleased to announce that 61 students have earned AP Scholar Awards in recognition of their exceptional achievement on AP exams.
The College Board’s AP program provides motivated and academically prepared students with the opportunity to take rigorous college-level courses while still in high school.
The College Board recognizes several levels of achievement based on students’ performance on AP exams.
Class of 2011 graduate, Kelli Freer qualified as a National AP Scholars by earning an average grade of 4 or higher on a five point scale on all AP exams taken, and grades of 4 or higher on eight or more of these exams.
Fifteen students qualified for the AP Scholar with Distinction Award by earning an average of at least 3.5 on all AP exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams: Andrew DaRin, Kelli Freer, Jonathan Groth, Adam MacNeill, Felicia Mingrone, Leann Misencik, Sonali Rodrigues, Kayla Russo, Magda Sadowski, Jason Shnipes, Margaret Siu, Omar Sobh, James Szabo, Jared Turnbull, and Jordan Vidal.
Eight students qualified for the AP Scholar with Honor Award by earning an average grade of at least 3.25 on all AP exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams. These students are Catherine Cheu, Sarah Francis, Daniel Guerrera, Jacob Hemenway, Katelyn Hochadel, Harley Pastore, Jeremy Soderholm, and James Tate.
Thirty-eight students were awarded an AP Scholar award by earning an average grade of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on three or more of these exams. AP Scholars include Kristen Biatowas, Nicole Biatowas, Megan Dawley, Jessica DeFelice, Nicole DeMarco, Nicholas Douglas, Lily Feroce, Angela Ferro, Tyler Gaetano, Molly Hanko, Molly Hellauer, Joseph Joyce, Lauren Kane, Adam Kocurek, Myca Lacerna, Natalie Laven, Justin Letendre, William Maloney, Catherine McDonald, Priya Mohan, Michele Moura, Kelsey Murphy, Jana Novak, Kathleen O’Brien, Meghan Poole, Jawaad Qureshi, Akshaya Ravishankar, Elizabeth Robinson, Allison Rosales, Nicholas Shigo, August Siu, Shannon Sizensky, David Stein, Colleen Stewart, Jia-Xin Teo, Jason Tran, Douglas Turaj, and Josh Wells.
In the 2010 – 2011 school year, 227 Shelton High School students took 374 examinations as part of the College Board Advanced Placement program. Shelton High School was also one of selected districts in the United States named to the College Board Achievement list for significant gains in AP access and student performance.
