Shelton High School held its 31st Annual Awards Assembly Tuesday (June 4) in the school’s auditorium.
Headmisress Dr. Beth Smith opened the program speaking to the mission statement of the school requiring students to meet high academic and behavioral expectations. She recognized and congratulated the staff, students, parents and the community for working collaboratively to ensure the continuation of the program.
Greetings were given by Guidance Curriculum Leader Kathy Riddle, Senior Class President Tyler Tice, Board of Education Chairperson Mark Holden and Superintendent of Schools Freeman Burr.
Students were then presented with individual awards over $100, a total award amount of $390,000.
The ceremony honored 124 students for displaying qualities of scholarship, leadership, citizenship, sportsmanship and responsibility. The award recipients were nominated for these awards by their teachers, school counselors, administrators, coaches and club advisors.
In the closing remarks, Housemaster Steven Swensen commended the award recipients for demonstrating exemplary qualities of good citizenship, academic excellence, leadership, perseverance, dedication and outstanding performance in the arts, music, athletics, service and extra-curricular activities.
Two weeks ago the Book and Achievement Award Ceremony was held before the entire student body. Awards $100 and under totaling over $10,000, as well as the university and college book awards and certificates of recognition, were presented to 155 students.
