Seventy-eight students were inducted into the Shelton High School National Honor Society at a reception at Grassy Hill Country Club on Wednesday, November 16, 2016.
The student-led ceremony began with a welcome by NHS president Ali Paolini. Following dinner, Shelton High School Headmaster Dr. Beth Smith offered congratulatory remarks. She indicated that “these students meet the high academic and behavioral expectations at Shelton High School.” She challenged them to set examples for their peers and continue to display scholarship, leadership, service and character.
Paolini then communicated the history of the National Honor Society. The four pillars of the National Honor Society were defined by the NHS officers.
Armana Islam, NHS vice-president, outlined scholarship; Madalena Cardoso, NHS Secretary, described leadership; Casey O’Connor, NHS Treasurer, delineated service; and Jade Serano, NHS Historian, concluded with character. Paolini presented the new members.
The traditional candlelight ceremony was led by Islam, Cardoso, O’Connor and Serrano. Paolini then lead the inductees in reciting the NHS oath. The induction ceremony was planned by co-advisors, Lynn Coffin and Erik Martire. School administration and members of the National Honor Society Faculty Council were in attendance, as were family members.
