SHELTON — A 34-year-old Shelton man is scheduled to appear in court May 25 after being accused by police of falsely reporting crimes.
Shelton police accused David Manning of lying to police on March 15, when he allegedly told cops that he was robbed at gunpoint by two men on Myrtle Street. Police said Manning told them the suspects stole his car and cell phone.
“A subsequent investigation by the detective bureau revealed the vehicle was in an accident in Bridgeport the day prior where the driver fled the scene. It also showed that Manning was not truthful and the vehicle was, in fact, not stolen,” police said in a statement.
Manning was charged April 6 with falsely reporting the theft of a motor vehicle, and interfering with an officer. He is free after posting a $500,000 bond.
