SHELTON — A 27-year-old Shelton man is accused of running an iPhone scam.
According to a prepared statement from Shelton police, Reginald Boyd Jr. placed ads on Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist offering iPhones for sale.
Two customers from out of state traveled to Shelton to purchase the phones, police said. After making the buys, the customers realized they had been sold non-working cell phones.
The phones were “later to be determined fraudulent cell phones packaged in a professional manner,” cops said.
Police received two complaints on Sept. 15, and started an investigation that resulted in Boyd’s arrest on Sept. 28. He’s charged with criminal simulation, forgery, fifth-degree larceny, and interfering with an officer.
Police also said there was a warrant out for Boyd’s arrest for a separate incident.
He was scheduled to make a court appearance in Superior Court in Derby today (Wednesday, Sept. 29).
