Shelton Man Arrested For Fatal Accident

Update, November 2012: The charges listed below were dropped.

The driver of a pickup truck that struck and killed a motorcycle rider last spring has been arrested for the incident.

Shelton police Thursday charged a 41-year-old Shelton resident with negligent homicide with a motor vehicle and failure to yield while turning left.

The man was released on a $1,000 bond and is scheduled to appear at Superior Court in Derby on March 21.

The fatal accident happened on March 18, 2010 at about 10:15 p.m.

The accident happened at the intersection of Leavenworth Road and Walnut Tree Hill Road, near the Monroe border.

Bruce Tischer, 43, of West Haven, was riding his motorcycle east on Leavenworth Road that evening. The man was driving his pick-up truck the opposite direction on the road, and turned left onto Walnut Tree Hill Road when he crashed into Tischer’s motorcycle, police said.

Emergency crews from Shelton and Monroe responded to the crash. Tischer was taken to Bridgeport Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
