Shelton Man Charged After Traffic Stop

Shelton police said they arrested a suspected car burglar after a traffic stop on Bridgeport Avenue Thursday afternoon.

According to a statement from police, Shelton Police Officer Chris Nugent stopped a car at about 1:15 p.m. in the area of 555 Bridgeport Ave.

The officer allegedly smelled marijuana wafting from the car, and then saw two cans of beer in plain site.

Nugent then recovered four GPS units from the suspect’s car, along with an iPhone, a “window punch tool,” and a number of gift cards and credit cards, all with different names attached.

Police said the GPS units and the cards had been stolen from several vehicles. Police also allegedly recovered a marijuana pipe in the car.

Kyle Eckweiler, 20, of Shelton, was charged with fourth-degree larceny, possession of burglary tolls, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of alcohol by a minor — and failing to wear a seat belt.

He was scheduled to be arraigned in Superior Court in Derby Nov. 1.
