The suspect, Jonathan Russell, 19, has been behind bars since Feb. 1 on charges relating to the robbery of the Buck Stop on Shelton Avenue in December. On Thursday he appeared in Superior Court in Derby on those charges, where Shelton police served him with arrest warrants in the car burglaries.
In the new case, Russell faces the following charges:

- third-degree burglary
- third-degree larceny
- third-degree criminal mischief
- fifth-degree larceny.
In the robbery, Russel is facing charges of first-degree robbery and fourth-degree larceny.
Police said that while detectives were executing a search and seizure warrant at Russell’s home during the investigation into the Buck Stop robbery, they found several items later identified as having been stolen from parked, unlocked cars in town. In one instance, police said Russell went into a car parked at a house where a resident had left a garage door open.
Police reminded resident to lock their vehicles and houses at all times, and said anyone seeing suspicious activity should call police at 203 – 924-1544.
