SHELTON — A 52-year-old Shelton resident faces seven criminal charges after police said he was traveling 90 mph on Route 8 while in possession of a controlled substance.
State police said William T. Lee entered Route 8 north near exit 3 in Bridgeport at about 11 a.m. Sept. 24 traveling 90 mph in a 65 mph zone. Gray, driving a Nissan Versa, “merged across several lanes in one motion,” according to a statement.
Trooper Robert Coyne pulled Lee over. Lee didn’t have a license, but gave the trooper a false name and a date of birth. The trooper entered the info into a computer and found a person who looked like Lee with the name and date of birth provided. The person was wanted for an unspecified crime in Derby.
Troopers put Lee in handcuffs, then searched his car, where they allegedly found a susbstance suspected to be fentanyl.
They turned him over to Derby police, at which point law enforcement realized Lee allegedly had not given them his real name but that of a family member wanted in Derby.
Lee was given back to state police and ultimately charged with second-degree forgery, criminal impersonation, possession of a controlled substance, interfering with a police investigation, reckless driving, failing to carry a driver’s license, and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license.
He is being held on $50,000 bail pending an Oct. 2 court date.
