Paramedics took a Shelton man to the hospital Wednesday afternoon after part of his kitchen ceiling fell on his head.
About 1:30 p.m. emergency personnel were dispatched to the man’s apartment, on the third floor of the building at the intersection of Coram Avenue and Center Street that houses Simonetti Cleaners, on a report of a partial ceiling collapse.
Fire Marshal James Tortora said at the scene that the a roof leak at the building caused a 2‑by-3-foot piece of plaster ceiling above the man’s kitchen to get wet.
“As the party was cooking next to the stove, the piece fell on his head,” Tortora said.
The man was “slightly injured,” Tortora said and taken to the hospital for an evaluation.
The rest of the building is OK, Tortora said. The building owner will fix the roof leak.
“There’s no damage to the structural integrity of the building, except for that piece of plaster,” he said.
Emergency crews had cleared the scene by about 1:45 p.m.
