A Shelton man driving the wrong way on Interstate 95 is to blame for a five-car Bridgeport crash that injured a state trooper Thursday, according to police.
State police said troopers Alexander Horjatschun Jr., 39, and Gregory Lebeau, 41, were parked in the left lane on Interstate 95 north protecting the scene of a previous accident in the area of Exit 27 when John Mysliwiec, 63 of Long Hill Avenue, drove up the wrong direction of the northbound Exit 28 off-ramp.
Emergency workers at the scene of the previous accident alerted the two troopers of the danger, who moved their cruisers to block other traffic.
As they were doing so, Mysliwiec hit Horjatschun’s cruiser before hitting Lebeau’s cruiser head-on.
Despite the two collisions, the momentum from Mysliwiec’s car carried it across the highway, where it collided with another car before coming to a rest against the highway’s jersey barrier.
Mysliwiec sustained broken ribs and a head injury in the accident and was taken to St. Vincent’s Hospital.
Lebeau was also taken to St. Vincent’s Hospital to be treated for injuries to his head and left arm.
State police say they are investigating the crash, charges have yet to be filed.
