As news crews stake out the site of Tuesday’s mudslide on North Oak Avenue, city leaders are meeting with representatives from the insurance company that insures the home at 161 North Oak Ave. to determine who will pay to demolish the house.
Tuesday’s mudslide left the vacant home in danger of falling off the side of the embankment onto the Riverview Condominiums below.
The house has been condemned and the building department has determined it will need to be knocked down.
But details, like who will pay for the demolition and whose property the landslide occurred on, are slowing down the process.
No one was injured in the mudslide, but several homes were evacuated as a precaution.
The slide also caused several large trees to fall down the slope. They were caught up on other, more stable trees Wednesday.
Emergency crews said the condominium association is evaluating the cost to remove the trees, something that is expected to be completed before the home is demolished.
Building inspector Elliot Wilson said other precautions, such as a search of the inside of the home, need to happen before the home is demolished.
