Shelton Police Arrest Home Invasion Suspect

Shelton police arrested a suspect they say forced his way into a Howe Avenue residence and pistol-whipped a man. 

Raymond Cardona, 30, of Ansonia, was arrested Thursday and charged with home invasion, first-degree robbery and second-degree assault. Cardona also had a warrant out for his arrest for a violation of probation charge.

The home invasion’ happened Monday (Jan. 23) at 12:15 p.m. when Cardona kicked in the apartment door wielding a handgun. He ordered the people in the apartment to hand over their valuables, police said. 

During the robbery he beat a man with his gun, then fled the scene. The victim was treated and released from Griffin Hospital.

Shelton police said the incident wasn’t random and that Cardona targeted the specific apartment. A prepared statement from Shelton police distributed Friday morning didn’t elaborate.

Cardona was arrested Thursday at his residence on Columbia Street in Ansonia. Police said he tried to run but was caught in his yard. He also had a domestic violence warrant pending out of Ansonia.

Cardona is being held on two $50,000 bonds. He is due in Superior Court in Derby today (Friday, Jan. 27).
