Shelton Police: Body Discovered During Search For Missing Person

SHELTON — UPDATED INFORMATION HERE.

Police released a statement to social media Sunday morning saying a man was found dead in a wooded area. There are no signs of foul play, police said.

A limited amount of information was released.

Police and detectives have been following leads in the recent missing person case,” the statement reads, presumably referencing the case of Jason Mastroianni, a 43-year-old Shelton man who was last seen Jan. 17.

The statement from police said that during a search on Saturday, Feb. 5, a deceased male was located in a wooded area.“

The statement did not provide additional information about the location.

The statement from police does not identify the body as that of Mastroianni.

However, two relatives of the missing man have been receiving notes of condolences on social media. The posts started appearing yesterday (Saturday, Feb. 5).

This investigation is still ongoing, but at this point there appears to be no signs of foul play,” according to the statement, which can be read in its entirety here.

Shelton police had released two previous statements on Jan. 28 and Feb. 3 asking for the public’s help in locating Mastroianni. On Feb. 2, the Shelton Fire Department also posted information from Mastroianni’s cousin seeking information on his whereabouts.
