Shelton Police Charge Juveniles With Stealing Packages

Shelton police asked residents to be wary of potential package thieves after arresting to juveniles over the weekend for theft.

In a Facebook post Monday (Dec. 4) police said that on Saturday (Dec. 2) about 9:15 a.m. officers were were sent to the area of Howe Avenue and Roberts Street on a report of stolen packages from a porch.

Two juveniles were arrested in connection to the theft, police said.

Cops said that if you’re heaving packages delivered you should:

  • Request delivery to the store itself and pick up the item there.
  • Have the package delivered to their work address or to the courier’s pickup station rather than their home.
  • Schedule delivery for a day that they know they will be home or a relative or friend will be home.
  • Require a signature upon receipt for deliveries.

The holiday season is the traditional peak time for so-called “porch pirate” thefts.

For example, last December police charged a Waterbury woman for allegedly stealing Christmas gifts delivered to homes in Aspetuck Village.

And in 2014 two New Haven men were nabbed after a resident saw them allegedly steal a package from a home on Meadow Lake Drive.
