SHELTON — Police on Tuesday accused a 36-year-old man from Guilford with robbing a bank on May 4.
Police said Kevin Kelly handed a teller a note at the People’s Bank at 898 Bridgeport Ave. implying that he had a firearm. He left the bank and was last seen in a Hyundai Tuscon with no plates.
“Shelton police disseminated images of the suspect and vehicle to the public and surrounding law enforcement agencies. Within hours a suspect was developed,” according to a prepared statement from Detective Chris Nugent.

A vehicle matching the description with Kelly in it was spotted later in the day May 4 by undercover cops in New Haven. Kelly was arrested on separate charges in New Haven that day. Shelton detectives then built a case and received a warrant for Kelly’s arrest. The prepared statement from police did not detail how they connected Kelly to the crime.
Kelly is charged with first-degree robbery and third-degree larceny, which means the theft involved between $2,000 and $10,000.
He’s being held on a $250,000 bond in connection to the Shelton charges.
