Green Light For New Shelton Restaurant

FILE PHOTODowntown Shelton will soon get another restaurant.

The Planning and Zoning Commission Tuesday approved a proposal to open a restaurant at 100 Center St., the old Center Stage theater building.

The 3,200 square foot restaurant will serve Italian continental food, according to owner Deborah Palko.

Palko and her business partner hope to open the restaurant this summer.

The restaurant will likely seat 70 to 80 people, and will also serve prepared and market foods for take-out.

The building is one of the few downtown properties with parking spots. There are 30 spots on site, and another five on the street in front of it.

Five of the spots are reserved for tenants in the five upstairs apartments over the restaurant.

Three residents spoke about the proposal during a public hearing Tuesday.

One, a neighbor next door to the property, said she wanted to make sure the large trash bin was not moved closer to her home.

Another, David Simonetti, owns property across the street.

I think it might be good to bring up the area with another establishment,” Simonetti said.

Planning and Zoning Commissioner Joan Flannery also weighed in.

I’m just glad to see more businesses coming downtown, liven it up,” Flannery said.
