Shelton Retailers Offer ‘Small Business Saturday’ Deals

Why should the big” guys have all the fun?

For as long as one can remember, Black Friday has been synonymous with rock bottom deals on a myriad of products to jump start the holiday shopping season. As can be imagined, most of the Black Friday deals are offered by large companies with the buying power and budget to do so. So where do small independent businesses stand?

American Express decided to give a much-needed boost to small businesses by putting advertising and marketing dollars behind Small Business Saturday, the Saturday after Thanksgiving, and yes, the day after Black Friday.

American Express cardholders can register online at ShopSmall.com between Nov. 24 and Nov. 30. Once registered (only a limited number of registrations will be accepted), cardholders who spend $10 or more at a qualifying small business location that appears on the Small Business Saturday Map on Small Business Saturday will receive a one-time $10 statement credit.

This year, 13 Shelton small businesses who are members of Shelton’s Gone Local Facebook group have come together with a special promotion to further entice shoppers to visit your local stores:

  • A limited number of pamphlets will be printed and distributed among the 13 businesses for shoppers to pick up. (One per family.)
  • Shoppers must visit a minimum of 8 out of the 13 participating businesses on Small Business Saturday, answer a question correctly at each business, have their pamphlet stamped, AND spend a minimum total of $60.00 at participating businesses.
  • Completed pamphlets can be dropped off at any one of the participating businesses at the end of the day.
  • Shoppers who have met the requirements of the promotion will be entered to win a $200.00 gift certificate to one of the participating businesses. (Shoppers who visit all 13 participating businesses will be entered into an additional drawing for a $25.00 gift certificate to Written Words Books & Gifts.)

Statistics have proven time and again that a larger percentage of consumers’ spending dollars if spent at local businesses are reinvested into the communities. A A considerably less amount supports the community if spent at a national chain, and little, if any, if spent online.

Come join the national movement as people across the country come out and shop to support their favorite local businesses and help fuel the economy.

The 13 participating businesses are: * A Touch of Color Make-Up Studio

  • Center Stage Theatre
  • Chocolate Pizza Company
  • Doggie Styles Pet Grooming
  • Huntington Rental Center
  • Huntington Street Café
  • Mother’s Embrace Yoga
