There was a tremendous ceremony at Finn Stadium in Shelton June 17 to honor Shelton grad and current NFL player Dan Orlovsky.
Orlovsky, a UConn grad, spent four years with the Detroit Lions before signing with the Houston Texans earlier this year.
Orlovsky remains a hometown boy, as evidenced by a great column in the CT Post by Chris Elsberry. This link to the article will be good for two weeks.
“Oh yeah, just to start in high school. When you’re in high school and you’re in this area, high school football is big,” Orlovsky said. “And when you start in high school, you’re considered a big deal.
I knew about Shelton football. I remember I’d sit in the stands as a kid and watch Kevin Ranger go like 95 yards for a touchdown, he was a big deal back then. I knew my football history and knew about Shelton and all the historical aspects of it. That meant a lot to me.”
Orlovsky does a ton of charity work in Connecticut. Click here to visit the Dan Orlovsky Foundation.
One question — is Orlovsky the greatest football player to emerge from the Valley?
