Shelton Storm Update: Schools Closed Monday

Shelton schools will be closed Monday as the city continues to dig out from the snow left by Friday’s blizzard.

Meanwhile, Police Chief Joel Hurliman said about 1 p.m. Sunday that the city is bringing in more private contractors with heavy equipment to help clear snow from streets.

Hurliman couldn’t say when he thinks all the city’s roads will be plowed, but said most main roads would be cleared by Sunday night.

Hurliman asked people shoveling their cars out of the snow to dig out the area of the car’s tailpipe before starting the engine.

And if using a snowblower near a house, the chief reminded residents to be mindful of possible carbon monoxide issues.

Winter parking restrictions will be in place, Hurliman said, meaning at midnight tonight (one minute before 12:01 a.m. Monday) vehicles must be parked on the odd side of the street, if possible.

All municipal buildings — City Hall, the Senior Center, the Community Center, the Lafayette Complex, the Plumb Library — are also closed Monday, and Tuesday as well due to Lincoln’s Birthday.

A notice posted on the city’s website says officials are hopeful to be in full operation by Wednesday, February 13, 2013 … Public Works Department is continuing to plow the streets until every street is accessible.”
