This past weekend 15 Junior Statesman of America (JSA) members represented Shelton High School at the annual Spring State Convention held at the Holiday Inn in Stamford, Conn.
The convention was titled “Revolutionizing Democracy: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow.”
They joined over 800 JSAers from around the Northeast Region where a wide range of topics related to political issues and public policy were debated and discussed.
Jr Justin Letendre was the primary speaker in the debate over the privatization of Social Security, Jr Karl Schiff was the primary speaker in a debate regarding female participation in the next military draft, and Jr Billy Maloney was the primary speaker in a debate over compensation of athletes who participate in college athletics.
U.S. Rep. Jim Himes (CT‑4) was an honored guest who gave a keynote address on Sunday morning.
After his address, the Congressman engaged students in a question and answer session.
