On Monday (April 22) six Shelton High School students, accompanied by their advisor, Nancy Duffy, attended the Connecticut Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Spring Leadership Conference at the Cromwell Crowne Plaza Hotel.
The six students, who are members of SHS FBLA, are: Michael Torres, Greg Martin, John Kocur, Tom Caruso, Amanda Brighindi and Eric Howard.
At the conference students participated in competitive events and attend business-related workshops.
Michael Torres was presented with the “Who’s Who in Connecticut FBLA” award. This award recognizes students for being active in their local chapter and assisting in chapter activities. Michael was nominated for the award by Mrs. Duffy.
Michael stated, “It is a great honor to win the award and receive recognition for the hard work I put into the club.”
Other SHS students receiving awards at the conference were:
- Greg Martin (first place, public speaking)
- Michael Torres (third place, business ethics)
- John Kocur (third place, business ethics)
- Tom Caruso (third place, impromptu speaking).
SHS Headmaster Beth Smith commented, “SHS FBLA exceeded our expectations at the spring conference, represented our school well and brought home several trophies. Congratulations to Mrs. Duffy and the students on a job well done.”
