On Monday, May 11, the Shelton Voters Network will host a legislative update with state Sen. Kevin Kelly of the 21st Senate District, state Rep. Jason Perillo of the 113th House District, and state Rep. Ben McGorty of the 122nd House District.
The update will be held at the Plumb Memorial Library in Shelton at 7 p.m. It is being co-sponsored by the Connecticut General Assembly.
At the Legislative Update, each state legislator will share an update of his work at the state capital to date during the current legislative session. Following those updates, there will be a series of facilitated questions from the audience for the legislators.
Supporting the event and volunteering that evening will be Shelton High School student members of Junior State of America (JSA).
JSA is a student-run nonpartisan non-profit organization designed to empower high school students with the tools they need to participate in current issues and affect positive change in their lives and the world.
The Shelton Voters Network is the Shelton affiliate of the League of Women Voters of the Bridgeport Area. The non-profit, nonpartisan group educates and connects voters with information so that they may become better informed about, and more active in, their local government. The group primarily does this through its website, SheltonVotersNetwork.org, and Facebook page and Twitter feed.
However, the Legislative Update will give Shelton residents a chance to hear directly from their state representatives. Members of the state delegation have held open coffee sessions with voters, and this event will provide a more formal opportunity to follow up on those discussions.
Shelton Voters Network member Kate Pipa notes, “This legislative update will give us all the chance to hear which issues our Shelton state legislators are currently focused on, and how they are addressing them, and to learn about what laws or changes are coming from our state government this year.”
The Legislative Update is free and open to the public and light refreshments will be served.
