A 21-year-old Shelton woman was charged with burglary and larceny Jan. 13 after allegedly breaking into a residence on Cots Street.
According to a prepared statement from police, the homeowners returned to their residence at about 12:30 p.m. and found Chelsea Hitzler inside. They don’t know her, police said.
The owners had a “brief discussion” with Hitzler, after which she opted to run away. Police were called.
“Detective Richard Bango arrived on scene and saw a female running in a wooded area,” according to Lt. Robert Kozlowski. “The female initially did not comply with commands to stop, but was arrested after a brief foot pursuit.”
Hitzler was charged with third-degree burglary, fifth-degree larceny and interfering with an officer. Police said she also had a warrant for her arrest. According to the state court database, she was sentenced to a year’s probation in connection to a sixth-degree larceny charge last year out of Seymour.
She was being held on a $7,500 bond and was scheduled to appear in Superior Court in Derby Jan. 14.
