Shelton’s Burke Ross Inducted Into State Veterans Hall Of Fame

A Shelton man was one of 10 people inducted into the Connecticut Veterans Hall of Fame Class of 2011 this month.

The Shelton resident was a draftsman for 33 years at the Bullard Company working on machine design, according to a state press release.

He served for several years as Adjutant for the Military Order of the Purple Heart and is a leader in obtaining permission and issuing the stamp in honor of the MOPH, the release said.

Ross is considered by many as the elder statesman of veterans’ issues in Connecticut. 

Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman and Department of Veterans Affairs Commissioner Linda Schwartz held a ceremony on Dec. at the atrium of the Legislative Office Building in Hartford. 

Each inductee or family member present received a commemorative medallion recognizing the induction. 

The other Connecticut residents inducted on Dec. 2 were:

  • Madelon Baranoski of Meriden: US Army Nurse Corps – Vietnam.
  • Samuel Beamon Sr. of Waterbury: US Marine Corps, Vietnam 1st Marine Air Wing
  • Rev. Dr. G. Kenneth Carpenter of Mystic: US Navy, Vietnam
  • Ronald Catania of Rocky Hill: US Air Force, Vietnam
  • John Chiarella of Waterbury: US Army, Korea/Vietnam
  • Harold Farrington of Old Saybrook: US Army, Vietnam
  • Phillip Kraft of Darien: US Army, Vietnam
  • Ronald Perry of Meriden: US Marine Corps, Vietnam
  • Richard Rampone of Kensington: US Marine Corps, Vietnam
