Derby police spent the weekend interviewing eyewitnesses and canvassing the neighborhood searching for information on Saturday night’s home invasion shooting on Elizabeth Street.
Police said two men, apparently wearing masks, forced their way into an apartment at 184 1/2 Elizabeth St. Saturday at about 10:20 p.m.
They shot a 52-year-old man several times in both legs at close range, police said.
Police have declined to release the victim’s name, citing a concern for his safety.
Three of the man’s family members were in the apartment during the attack, Derby police Lt. Justin Stanko said Monday morning.
Police are not saying whether the man was the victim of a targeted or random attack. Police said they are investigating all avenues.
“The motive is unknown right now,” Stanko said.
Stanko noted it appears nothing was stolen from the apartment.
In addition to family members, Derby police have also talked to the 52-year-old victim, who was listed in stable condition at Yale-New Haven Hospital as of Sunday.
Police plan to interview the victim again with the assistance of an Albanian translator.
