‘Home Invasion’ Shooting In Derby

A 52-year-old man is in stable condition after being shot several times in a home invasion’ on Elizabeth Street Saturday night.

Police responded to an apartment at 184 1/2 Elizabeth St. at 10:20 p.m., according to a statement from police.

Police had the area cordoned off at midnight. 

The 52-year-old male victim, whose name is being withheld for his safety, was shot several times by multiple perpetrators who entered his residence,” the police statement read.

The victim suffered at least two gunshot wounds, including one to the leg. He was losing consciousness in the ambulance as he was being transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital, according to emergency radio dispatches Saturday night.

However, police said Sunday he was in stable condition at Yale-New Haven.

Cathy Andrews, a neighbor, told WFSB that she heard a popping noise, then saw police come out in force.

Police officers were still at the scene as of 8:53 a.m. Sunday.

No arrests have been made.

Anyone with information on last night’s shooting in Derby is being asked to call police at 203 – 735-7811. All calls may remain confidential.

This is Derby’s first shooting since May 12.

Meanwhile, a gas station in Shelton was robbed just before the Derby shooting Saturday.

The Shell station across from Steller’s Garage on Bridgeport Avenue was robbed about 10 p.m. There were no injuries. Police were using dogs to track a suspect for at least an hour after the robbery. Emergency radio dispatches described the suspect as wearing a hoodie and blue jeans.

Elsewhere in the lower Valley, a vehicle crashed into a utility pole on Route 34 in Oxford at about 3 a.m. Sunday. Detours were set up for several hours near Punkup Road.

Shelton firefighters also responded overnight to a fire in a home on Joseph Court.
