Derby High School was evacuated for about an hour Monday morning, after a blower on the auditorium roof malfunctioned.
At about 8:45, school administrators noticed smoke in the auditorium, and pulled the fire drill.
Several fire engines from the Derby volunteer fire department and an engine from the Shelton Echo Hose responded to the high school to investigate.
There did not appear to be any fire — just smoke in the auditorium, according to Derby Fire Chief James Butler.
The students were allowed back into the building at about 9:45 a.m.
There were no injuries, according to principal Fran Thompson.
“Thank goodness everybody’s safe,” Thompson said.
