Saturday, Oct. 1, is the first “Smoke in the Valley” craft beer and chili festival in downtown Seymour. Most of the vendors will be centered around downtown Main Street.
More than 30 small breweries will participate, and chili cooks will compete for prizes. There will be live music. The bands playing are Shaded Mirror, Benny Mikula, and GravyHound.
The beers will be served in five-ounce sampler cups. Visitors can also sample the various chili recipes and vote on them. The best chili makers will win cash prizes.
The event will benefit the Valley’s emergency services, as well as Seymour Youth Sports.
The event runs from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in downtown Seymour.
Tickets are $30. VIP tickets are $40. Tickets are available at etix.com, smokeinthevalley.com, or call Glen Ro Spirits in Monroe at 203-261-6166.
“Ticket sales are brisk. You know what, it’s for a great event,” said Larry Cass, of Seymour, owner of Glen Ro, a co-organizer.
“It’s a nice way to get people together,” he said. “These events thrive because you can go with four or five of your buddies, have some beer, some chili, and listen to a live band for $30.”
He expects the crowd to be as many as 1,000 people.
