Snapshot Day At Derby Library Next Month

The Derby Public Library is proud to once again participate in the state-wide project, Snapshot Day, on Tuesday, April 16. On this day, libraries all over Connecticut will be taking a snapshot” — collecting information to capture the impact that Connecticut libraries have on their communities on a typical day.

On the last Snapshot Day held in 2011, 55,862 people walked through the doors of Connecticut libraries and 56,573 items were circulated. Snapshot Day is a joint project of the Connecticut Library Association, the Connecticut State Library and the Connecticut Library Consortium.

The aim is to encourage libraries all over Connecticut to collect data of how many people use the library on a given day, how many people use computers and attend programs. As in so many libraries across the state, the Derby Public Library is a cornerstone of the community, a place where people come together to visit, learn and share ideas.

On April 16, the community will again have the opportunity to comment on what the Derby Public Library means to them. Pictures and comments taken from libraries all over Connecticut will be posted on http://snapshotctlib.wordpress.com after April 30.

Activities at the Derby Public Library that day will include a performance by the Airborne Jugglers: Juggling with a Comedy Twist for children at 1:30 p.m., a Video Production workshop for teens at 4:00 p.m., and All Season Color Gardening for adults at 6:30 p.m.

Throughout the day, visitors will also have the opportunity to view old photographs of Library programs from previous years, along with old photos of Derby, as well as enter a free Snapshot Basket” raffle.
