SHELTON — An 18-year-old Shelton High School student was arrested Wednesday after allegedly posting a threatening video online.
Police released a statement late Wednesday saying they received numerous reports about the video, which showed the student and what appeared to be a gun (or, according to the charges, a nonfunctional imitation of a firearm).
“The video shows a gun and the male states that if someone messes with him tomorrow and he goes to school he is willing to kill someone,” according to police.
The suspect was taken into custody Wednesday evening. Police said they seized a weapon matching the weapon displayed in the video.
He was charged with first-degree threatening, brandishing a facsimile firearm, and second-degree breach of peace.
He was in custody on a $50,000 bond as of 12:15 a.m. Thursday.
Police made the arrest within hours of the video being posted online, thanks to the public’s help.
Earlier in the evening Wednesday, Kathy Riddle, the interim Shelton High School principal, sent a message to parents saying there had been a threat but that the student would not be in school Thursday.
She said extra police and security will be at Shelton High School Thursday as a precaution.
