SOUPSTOCK 2011 Set For May 15

FILEThe Second Annual SOUPSTOCK Music and Arts Festival will be held at the Veterans Memorial Riverwalk in downtown Shelton on Sunday May 15.

The event, hosted by local media personality Brian Smith, is the annual fundraiser for the Mary A. Schmecker Turtle Shell Fund, a charity fund managed by the Valley
Community Foundation, a 501©(3) organization.

SOUPSTOCK will feature live music from 10 AM – 7 PM, a pro/amateur soup cook-off with entries from local restaurants and private chefs, an art expo tent featuring prize-winning art from local schools, live craft demonstrations by local artisans and much more.

The festival is free to attend and will be held rain or shine.

The event is held in conjunction with the Lower Naugatuck Valley Boys and Girls Club’s Get Your Walk On’ walkathon, which is the club’s primary fundraising event.

The Mary A. Schmecker Turtle Shell Fund was created in 2010 by Mary’s Grandchildren Joe Manganello and Michele Bialek along with Michele’s husband Fred to honor her legacy.

Mrs. Schmecker was a ceramics instructor at the Shelton Boys and Girls Club for over 35 years until just before her passing in 2008. The Fund wishes to continue Mary’s spirit of enthusiastic support for artistic education through program funding, scholarships, internships and mentoring in the fields of Music, fine arts and Artisan trades. The first SOUPSTOCK event netted nearly $5,000 which was donated to the Turtle Shell Fund in 2010.
