Do you have an article of clothing, a bedspread, drapery or any other fabric that is significant to your family, culture or ethnic background?
Or perhaps you have a piece of trim from a wedding gown that an ancestor wore, or a button or other notion that a family member passed down to you.
The Southford Falls Quilters would love to have a small piece of it and incorporate it into a community quilt. They are looking for pieces of fabric at least 8” square that can be sewn into a crazy quilt.
As part of a Community Grant from the VALLEY COMMUNITY FOUNDATION, the Southford Falls Quilters are planning to represent the diverse community of the Valley towns (Shelton, Derby, Ansonia, Seymour and Oxford) in a quilt that will be created in the Crazy Quilt style of the early 1900s.
Crazy Quilts were typically made from lavish fabrics and embellished with lace and hand stitched embroidery. Using some of these techniques, the Southford Falls Quilters will create a quilt using fabric and notions donated by Valley residents. This is where YOUR help is needed. If you do have something that could be added to this quilt please reach out to the Southford Falls Quilters.
The Guild will have representatives at the Kellogg Estate Quilt Show July 27 – 30, in Derby, to answer questions and collect your donated piece of fabric or notion. You may reach them at SFQuilters@yahoo.com.
The quilt is planned to be completed by spring 2024 and donated for public display in the Valley. Learning more about the people in our community brings us together and is a benefit to all of us. Southford Falls Quilters are a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.
