On Tuesday April 1st, Perry Hill School will have a new champion – the best of the best spellers in the 5th and 6th grade.
Throughout the past several weeks, students have had the opportunity to compete within their classroom and project team levels. 25 winners will now advance to the final bee to be held in the Perry Hill School Auditorium next Tuesday, April 1st at 7:00 p.m.
“The Spelling Bee is back again by popular demand,” said Perry Hill Principal Lorraine Williams. ​“We ran it for the first time last year during CMT testing as a way for teachers and students to have a respite from the rigors of testing each day. It was such a great part of our District for many years, and then it just faded away. With enthusiastic help of former teachers and administrators, as well as existing staff and parents, it is truly thriving once again this year at Perry Hill.”
The Bee is once again being sponsored by the Shelton Education Endowment Fund (SEEF), a Component Fund of the Valley Community Foundation.
“The mission of SEEF is to provide and sustain current and endowed funding for education in Shelton in the areas of student awards, teacher innovations, career exploration, and community engagement,” said Valerie Knight-Di Gangi of SEEF​’s Advisory Committee. ​“The Perry Hill Spelling Bee is such a great fit for us – helping to support a wonderful academic challenge for the students at Perry Hill School. It’s a win-win for everyone!”
Cash prizes totaling $375 for the top five winners and the top winner’s homeroom are being provided by Standard Oil, Goodman Insurance, and anonymous donors in Shelton. Winners at all levels will receive recognition, either in the form of certificates and/or school store coupons.
The Perry Hill PTO will provide refreshments at the final event.
