The political fireworks are shining bright once again in Oxford, Oxford Patch is reporting.
Discussion at last week’s Board of Selectmen meeting about an overspent budget line item ignited yet another battle in a political war that has been ongoing for several years.
It started when First Selectman Mary Ann Drayton-Rogers, a Democrat, announced that the Planning and Zoning Commission has already overspent its budget by $10,197 and is looking for an extra $20,000 from the town to pay bills that will come due by the end of the fiscal year on June 30.
Drayton-Rogers said the commission’s chairman, William O. Johnson, also a Democrat, informed her that longtime finance board member and Republican Tom Kelly, the finance board liaison to the P&Z Commission, told Johnson to keep spending and that the Board of Finance would cover the overages at the end of the year.
