Community support in the Naugatuck Valley for Spooner House is something that we can always count on, but after the support we received in May, it’s time to say an extra special “Thank You.”
We started the month by participating on May 5 and 6 in the “Great Give,” led by The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven. Spooner House raised $19,340.43 with just 43 gifts during the 36-hour drive.
On May 6, more than 40 employees of Turner Construction in Shelton marked their company’s 113th anniversary by spending the day at Spooner House painting our cafeteria and doing maintenance on our exterior lights.
On May 9, volunteers from the Valley United Way’s Youth Leadership Program spent the entire day helping us unload and sort the food from the 41 mail trucks that were part of the annual Letter Carriers’ Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.
On May 16, we held our 18th annual Walk for the Hungry & Homeless. It was an overwhelming success that was due not only to the generosity of those who participated but also to the dozens of volunteers and sponsors.
On May 20, more than a dozen people from Unilever Global Supply Chain chose Spooner House for their participation in Global Volunteer Day. They helped with landscaping, organized our food bank and cleaned around our facility.
We hosted 4th and 5th grade students from St. Joseph School on May 28 who were taking part in Stop & Shop “Kids Give Back” program. The kids learned about nutrition and that earned Spooner House a $250 donation of fresh food from Peapod.
The food bank and shelter are there for those in need in the Valley. It’s so good to know that the people and businesses are here for us.
Thank you.
