The Connecticut Film Commission toured Ansonia Tuesday. That got us thinking — who would play local officials in “Ansonia: The Motion Picture?”
Answers inside!
The Economic Development Commission invited George Norfleet, the director of the state Office of Film, to tour Ansonia as a way to get more exposure for potential businesses.
“EDC has to be looking at these new ideas,” said John Marini, a member of the Board of Aldermen and the city’s newly revived economic development commission. “Not just sitting back and putting up ‘for sale’ signs.”
Norfleet took photos of several properties in Ansonia during the tour.
Marini said those photos will end up in a file at the state office and on the Office of Film’s website. There, film companies — specifically, location scouts — can browse the locations and see if any fit their productions.
The large factory sites might also attract companies looking to store production equipment.
Marini said the exposure might attract different types of business as well.
“To let people know it exists in the first place is kind of important,” Marini said. “We’re not going to attract investors if the don’t know some of these places are here.”
The state offers tax incentives for production companies who film in the state.
“Prisoners,” a major motion picture, was supposed to film in Derby and Shelton last year. However, the production fell apart before filming began. At last report, Leonardo DiCaprio was considering in a lead role — but he’s never signed.

Over the summer, an indie dramedy called “The Best Movie Ever Made,” filmed all over the lower Valley, including Ansonia’s Main Street.
