State Honors Hilltop Hose Volunteers

State Representatives Linda Gentile (D‑Ansonia & Derby), Theresa Conroy (D‑Ansonia, Beacon Falls and Seymour) and State Senator Joseph J. Crisco, Jr. (D‑Woodbridge) joined the Ansonia Hilltop Hose Company No. 5 in honoring past Captain John Pellicani and 40 year member Lyman Gilbert at their Annual Installation and Past Captains’ Dinner.

It is an honor to recognize these individuals for their continued commitment to service to the people of Ansonia and dedication to the Hilltop Hose Company No. 5,” Rep. Gentile stated. To be a part of a volunteer fire department is the ultimate definition of public service. I applaud these men for all they have done and continue to do for our community.”

Volunteer firefighters like Captain Pellicani and Chief Gilbert don’t just save taxpayers’ money, they save lives. We are all grateful for the service they have provided to our community,” said Rep. Conroy.

Reps. Gentile, Conroy and Sen. Crisco presented citations to John Pellicani and Lyman Gilbert stating, “…your dedicated service to the city of Ansonia has made our community a safer place to live. We thank you for your tremendous contribution and congratulate you on this well deserved achievement.”

Ansonia residents should sleep better each and every night knowing the firefighting members of Hilltop Hose Co. No. 5 are well-trained and standing by to respond to any fire emergency on a moment’s notice,” Sen. Crisco said. The volunteers recognized at this year’s dinner, Past Captain John Pellicani and 40-year member Lyman Gilbert, stand out for their uncompromising commitment to preparedness and public safety – I join the entire Ansonia community and salute their public service.”

Pellicani served as captain for 2008 and 2009 and Gilbert has been a member of the Hilltop Hose Company for 40 year and was a past chief of the Ansonia Fire Department.

The all volunteer firefighter Hilltop Hose Company No. 5 was conceived in 1955 to address the need for fire protection in this fast growing section of Ansonia known as the hilltop.
